'Texture & Light' - Collagraph Print

This abstract work combines so many elements of my work – the exploration of textures and materials to create tonal variations in the collagraph layers; the bold geometric shapes and structured composition; the addition of contrasting colours as an overlay, with the ink just mixed thinly enough so the colour serves to pick out elements of the underlying detail. 

This is a series that continues to fascinate me. The work contains myriad detail within a balanced symmetrical composition, intriguing and stylish but quietly understated, it will make a fabulous addition to your home.

I love collagraph printmaking because of its’ versatility and flexibility as a creative process – the artist builds up textured surfaces on a plate using materials like fabric, cardboard, and natural objects. This plate is then inked and pressed onto paper, capturing the intricate textures and details. The process of exploring textures and materials is utterly engrossing, leading to unique and varied results. The beauty of collagraphy lies in its ability to produce richly textured, multi-dimensional images, from abstract compositions to detailed landscapes and portraits. There are endless opportunities for experimentation, each print becoming a distinct and expressive piece of art.
