'Digital Perceptions I' - Large Handmade Monoprint
'Digital Perceptions I' - Large Handmade Monoprint
My digital perceptions series was conceived from thinking about the mechanics of our digital world, the underlying data in its binary form and its translation into the colours, patterns, words and sounds that occupy so much of our attention.
The Digital Perceptions monoprints combine a base layer created from abstracted, distorted views of binary ones and zeros, with further layers of bold colours building to create a complex visual treat.
If you like strong colour and abstract pattern, these could be the works for you!

Monoprinting is somewhere between printing and painting. It is printmaking because the ink is applied to a plate and then transferred to paper in a printing press, rather than being applied directly to paper. However it is similar to painting because the plate is typically just a flat surface (e.g. a sheet of perspex) and ink is painted on to it with a brush or roller. The image can be built up in many layers and it is easy to use stencils, templates or masks to apply colour only where you want it. This more painterly approach generally means monoprints are all unique, they cannot be identically repeated, they are not editioned, and are numbered 1 of 1 (i.e. an edition of 1).
