This series of work was an exploration of the patterns, shapes and colours in the Clifton Moor area of York. I was thinking a lot about the significance and context of different spaces as well as looking for things which were visually interesting.

Clifton Moor is an area dominated by retail parks, (ring) roads, car showrooms and car parks, typical of the outskirts of most towns and cities. It is a landscape built for and dominated by the car – as such it resonated with me as symbolic of addiction to fossil fuels. It also has an interesting range of architecture (car showrooms in particular).

The collagraph prints capture this jigsaw of shapes, patterns and colours – literally the (visual) language of (fossil fuel) addiction. If you like your artwork to be visually interesting and also thought provoking - this could be the one for you. These prints are selected from the last few I have available of this series.

I love collagraph printmaking because of its’ versatility and flexibility as a creative process – the artist builds up textured surfaces on a plate using materials like fabric, cardboard, and natural objects. This plate is then inked and pressed onto paper, capturing the intricate textures and details. The process of exploring textures and materials is utterly engrossing, leading to unique and varied results. The beauty of collagraphy lies in its ability to produce richly textured, multi-dimensional images, from abstract compositions to detailed landscapes and portraits. There are endless opportunities for experimentation, each print becoming a distinct and expressive piece of art.
