What are the main types of Printmaking?
There are so many types of printmaking, each with their own technical methods and processes and creative possibilities. I'm not planning to cover all of them here, but I will briefly cover the main types of handmade prints you will find at print fairs.
Before that, its worth looking at the difference between Intaglio and Relief printing.
Relief Printing
The diagram above shows a cross section of a printing plate. In the middle image, grooves and marks have been cut or scratched into the surface of the plate. Blue ink has then been applied across the upper levels of the plate using a roller. When paper is laid on the plate and pressure applied, .......
